short by Satyaki Das / on Monday, 7 November, 2016
Harvard University physicists claim to have successfully produced solid metallic hydrogen in the lab for the first time. To make it, they needed to generate pressures of around 495 gigapascals, greater than that at the earth's core. Developed further, this will have potential applications like superconductors, high-efficiency rocket fuel and lightweight floating structures to support cities.
