The father of a Moroccan-born man, Brahim Saadoun, sentenced to death by a court in Russia-backed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) on mercenary charges, said that his son has Ukrainian nationality. Brahim should be treated as a "prisoner of war" for fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war, his father said. Brahim received Ukrainian nationality in 2020 after undergoing military training there.
