The National Health Institute (ISS) in Italy on Thursday said the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID-19 will become the dominant strain in the country. Preliminary data of a flash survey showed Omicron accounted for 28% of cases on December 20. The analysis, to be published on December 29, is based on 2,000 swabs taken from 18 Italian regions.
