Researchers have found that heatwaves increase ground-level ozone pollution in India, raising health risks and deaths. The study, 'Heatwaves trigger severe surface ozone pollution in India', estimated that over 830 deaths in 2024 were linked to higher ozone levels caused by extreme heat. Ground-level ozone affects the lungs and heart and remains elevated for up to four days after heatwaves.
