A study has found alarming heavy-metal contamination in groundwater across Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district, linked to coal mining, industrial activity and other sources. Aluminium exceeded safe limits in 40% of samples, while iron and manganese were also found at unsafe levels. Children face particularly high health risks, highlighting the need for regular groundwater monitoring.
