Heavy monsoon downpours surge superbugs in city rivers

A new study from IIT Roorkee & TU Dresden reveals that heavy monsoon rains wash untreated sewage into urban rivers such as Dehradun's Bindal & Rispana. Instead of diluting pollutants, the runoff mobilises massive fecal waste, causing a 1,000-fold surge in antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) and turning waterways into dangerous superbug hotspots.
