The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday made helmets compulsory for two-wheeler pillion riders across the state. Exempting riders wearing a turban from the order, the state announced that a fine will be imposed on those found violating the rule. The government made the decision after amending the UP Motor Vehicle Rules, 1988, which earlier exempted pillion riders from wearing helmets.
