Australians lost over $7 million in 2022 to a text message scam in which fraudsters pose as a family member or friend claiming they need help, convincing people to send them money. The victims of the scam known as 'Hi mum' increased tenfold in the past three months. In 2022 alone, $7.2 million was stolen from at least 11,100 victims.
