High selenium in wheat responsible: Expert report on baldness outbreak in Maharashtra region

Padma Shri awardee expert Dr Himmatrao Bawaskar's report has linked high selenium content found in wheat from Punjab and Haryana supplied by local ration shops to incidents of sudden hair loss in Maharashtra's Buldhana. "Our analysis...revealed that wheat contained 600 times more selenium than the locally grown variety," he said, stating that it led to total baldness in 3-4 days.
