The government has reduced the highest surcharge rate to 25% from 37% under new tax regime, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Budget speech. "The highest tax rate in our country is 42.74%, it is among highest in the world. As a result of reduction in highest surcharge rate, the maximum tax rate will come down to 39%," she said.
