Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat which improve heart health, as per MedlinePlus. They reduce triglycerides, a type of fat in blood. They also reduce the risk of developing irregular heart beat. They slow buildup of plaque, a substance comprising fat, cholesterol, and calcium, which hardens and blocks arteries. They also help to slightly lower blood pressure.
