How are satellites put in orbit and how do they stay there?

To carry a satellite into space, rockets attain speeds of over 25,000 kmph against Earth's gravity. On approaching the required altitude, rockets are tilted to maintain a balance between velocity and gravity before the satellite is released parallel to Earth's surface. The satellite continuously falls under gravity and stays in orbit until Earth curves at the same rate from beneath.
