Artificially ripened mangoes, which can cause severe gastrointestinal distress, often have a uniform bright yellow colour without the usual green patches. They may feel soft on the outside, but remain hard or raw near the seed. They usually lack fragrance, unlike the naturally ripened ones. They tend to rot quickly and may not taste as sweet or juicy.
