How courts decide which cases they can hear

Indian courts hear cases based on jurisdiction, which means a court’s legal authority to decide a matter. It depends on territory of the dispute, subject matter such as civil or criminal cases, and claim value. Courts also exercise original jurisdiction to hear cases first, appellate jurisdiction to review judgments, and advisory jurisdiction when the President seeks the Supreme Court’s opinion.
