Mohammed Shahabuddin reportedly had to resign as Bangladesh President after he tried to reestablish contact with his ally and former PM Sheikh Hasina. Intelligence agencies reportedly learned about their conversation, after which a message to step down was conveyed to him. Earlier, Shahabuddin had called out Muhammad Yunus government of "humiliating" him by removing his portraits from embassies.
