How did a Punjab villager's toy help invent fibre optic cables, backbone of AI?

Indian-American physicist Narinder Kapany is often recognised as the 'Father of Fibre Optics' for his discovery, which led to the invention of fibre optic cables. Kapany got interested in bending light after he got a Kodak camera as a gift. Studying at Imperial College London, Kapany showed that light could travel through glass fibre, despite his professor's disbelief.
