After the 26/11 terror attack, Ratan Tata visited the Taj Mahal Palace hotel employees who were injured. Within two weeks, the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust was established to provide financial assistance from ₹36 lakh to ₹85 lakh to the families of the employees who were killed. Ratan Tata also ensured that the children of deceased employees get quality education.
