Clouds play a key role in regulating Earth's temperatures. They reflect some of the energy coming from the Sun back to space with intensities that depend on the cloud's type, size and altitude. Clouds also trap some of the infrared heat that our planet emits. Thin clouds at high altitudes have warming effect because they're good at trapping thermal radiation.
