How do sea mines work?

Sea mines are explosive devices placed underwater to destroy enemy ships. They are anchored to seabed or drift near surface and detonate when triggered by contact, pressure, magnetic signals, or sound from a vessel. Naval forces use them to block strategic waterways, protect coastlines or disrupt enemy shipping routes. The US bombed 16 Iranian mine-laying vessels near Strait ‌of Hormuz.
