The US government's highway safety agency has sought detailed information on how Tesla's Autopilot system detects and responds to emergency vehicles parked on highways. In an 11-page letter, the NHTSA asked how Tesla cars detect a crash scene, including flashing lights, road flares, and vehicles parked on the road. The agency began probing Tesla's Autopilot in August after 11 crashes.
