How does Claude hide secret messages in images?

Research conducted as part of the Singapore AI Safety Fellowship found that Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.1 can hide messages in images using Morse code, object rotations, colours, heights and lit windows. Researchers found that fresh Claude Fable sessions could decipher about 78% of hidden messages from screenshots. However, recovery rates varied depending on the encoding method used.
