How does Hot Spot technology work in cricket?

Hot Spot technology in the Decision Review System determines whether the ball has hit the batsman's bat or pad. The technology uses at least two infra-red cameras positioned on opposite sides of the ground, which show a bright spot at the point of contact of the ball. The cameras measure heat from friction, and can show up inaudible edges.
