A new study in Purulia, West Bengal, conducted by scientists at HEAL, NCBS, and TDU reveals that only 39% of locals could identify the striped Hyaena. Because it is nocturnal and solitary, a lack of encounters leads to exaggerated folklore, fear, and dual cultural identities.
