How is AI helping stop elephant deaths on Indian railway tracks?

The Railways Ministry uses an AI-enabled intrusion detection system, called Gajraj Suraksha, to prevent elephant deaths on railway tracks. Optical fibres and acoustic sensors detect vibrations from elephant footsteps up to 200 metres away. The system tracks animal movement in real time and alerts station masters, who then warn locomotive drivers, helping trains slow down and avoid collisions.
