India's Vice President is elected by electoral college consisting of all members of both Parliament Houses, in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. MPs rank candidates in order of preference and the required quota of votes is calculated as (Total Valid Votes ÷ 2) + 1. Poll is conducted by Election Commission.
