Thailand's Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Siam, was named after Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram. King Ramathibodi is said to have founded the city around 1350. "Subsequent kings...adopted the name Rama, further solidifying the connection to Lord Ram," World Hindu Foundation's Swami Vigyananand said. "Ramayana...was adapted into the Thai version known as Ramakien," he added.
