How is the owl's body structure inspiring future aircraft design?
short by Swati Dubey / on Friday, 1 August, 2025
Aviation engineers are modelling future aircraft on owl wings to reduce turbulence. Owls' serrated leading edges break turbulent air into small vortices, preventing flow separation, while fringed trailing edges smooth airflow. Velvety down feathers absorb noise and vibrations, reducing drag. Their flexible wings also adjust to gusts, inspiring designs to boost aircraft stability and efficiency.
