Most adults need between 0.8 and 1 gram of protein for each kilogram of body weight daily. According to experts, consuming high amounts of protein can lead to several side effects, including constipation, additional damage to those with pre-existing kidney disease, increased risk of cancer and heart disease. Additionally, excess protein consumption can also cause weight gain and bad breath.
