National Pension Scheme (NPS), launched in 2004, is open to all citizens and mandatory for central government employees. Atal Pension Yojana (APY), launched in 2015, is government-guaranteed scheme mainly for unorganised sector workers. NPS allows 60% lump-sum withdrawal upon maturity with 40% to be used for pension. APY allows people to get minimum pension of ₹1,000-₹5000/month post retirement.
