Mumbai's Sindhi settlement in Chembur Camp is around 75-80 years old, established immediately after India's 1947 Partition when British army barracks were repurposed to house Sindhi Hindu refugees fleeing Pakistan, forming a vibrant community that grew around this historic military base. Refugees started living in these barracks from 1947-1949, making the settlement nearly eight decades old.
