How two tribes in Kutch are conserving endangered swimming camels

The nomadic Rabari and Fakirani Jat tribes of Gujarat have conserved the endangered Kharai swimming camel and maintained its genetic purity for 400 years. They consider it their divine duty to protect the camels, which can survive on land and in water. The tribes have conserved them despite the shrinking mangroves for grazing and reduced economic value of camels.
