How was the 1st flag on Moon made to fly despite no air?

On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first people to land on the Moon. Despite the lack of atmosphere, a photo shows the US flag flying on the Moon. Engineers had attached the flag to a horizontal crossbar, allowing it to be extended outward. This gave the impression of the flag flying in a breeze.
