How was the name for India's first satellite decided?

The name for India's first satellite 'Aryabhata' was chosen by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who was suggested three names. The satellite was named after the 5th century Indian astronomer and mathematician Aryabhata. Other suggestions were 'Maitri' and 'Jawahar'. Notably, the satellite was launched 42 years ago on Wednesday.
