How will govt's revised sugar import rules affect businesses?

The government has revised conditions for duty-free imports of up to 10 lakh tonnes of raw sugar, allowing importers two months from the Bill of Entry date to refine and sell consignments domestically. The move gives refiners greater flexibility, may help stabilise rising domestic sugar prices ahead of the festive season and curb hoarding by ensuring timely supply.
