How will taxes apply to specified mutual funds in FY27?
short by Pravel Jain / on Thursday, 19 February, 2026
Specified mutual funds, mainly debt funds, are taxed based on the purchase date. In FY27, for investments made on/after April 1, 2023, capital gains will be treated as short-term and taxed at the investor's income-tax slab rate. For investments made before that, long-term gains (after 24 months for unlisted and 12 months for listed units) will be taxed at 12.5%.
