Karnataka High Court ruled that a husband's girlfriend (paramour) can't be prosecuted for cruelty to his wife under Section 85 of BNS, which penalises a husband or his relative. The court relied on Supreme Court precedent that a married man's girlfriend isn't his relative. Woman paramour had approached HC after trial court took cognisance of a criminal case against her.
