KIMS founder Dr B Bhaskar Rao recalled travelling weekends to nearly 10 districts to bring poor villagers for heart surgery. He used the CM (₹30,000) and PM (₹20,000) relief funds to perform surgeries at ₹45,000 each, while corporate hospitals charged ₹1.5 lakh. The success eventually pushed him to open his own hospital in 2000.
