Income Tax Department has intensified its scrutiny of taxpayers claiming deductions on political donations over the past three assessment years, a report stated. Several taxpayers have received notices requesting them to furnish proof of donations and clarify the source of funds used for such contributions. Some donations were allegedly made in cash or kind, which are ineligible for deductions.
