The government on Thursday approved the appointment of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, presently the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the Home Secretary. A 1984-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Bhalla will succeed Rajiv Gauba. His appointment comes a day after Gauba was appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary.
