IBM launches 'world's first' sub-1 nanometre chip technology
short by Neeraja Nath / on Thursday, 25 June, 2026
IBM has unveiled what it calls the world's first sub-1 nanometre semiconductor chip, built on new 0.7 nm transistor architecture. The chip has about 100 billion transistors packed into the size of a fingernail. It's expected to deliver up to 50% higher performance and 70% better energy efficiency than IBM's 2 nm chips. It uses a "nanostack" 3D chip architecture.
