ICAR study flags fire risk in nearly half of Goa’s forest cover

Nearly 44% of Goa's forests are highly fire-prone, with another 21% facing high risk, according to a new study by ICAR-CCARI. Using machine learning, researchers linked fire vulnerability to forest density, slope, rainfall, and proximity to roads. Open forests and south-facing slopes near settlements are most at risk, raising concerns over future fire management.
