short by Saurav Joshi / on Tuesday, 2 September, 2025
IIT Guwahati researchers have developed a nanosensor that can detect mercury, a cancer-causing metal, and tetracycline contamination in water. The sensor, developed using milk protein and thymine, uses carbon dots that glow under ultraviolet light in the presence of water pollutants such as mercury and tetracyclines. The developed sensor can detect the contaminants in less than 10 seconds.
