IIT Madras has commissioned the world's first remotely operated Local Electrode Atom Probe (LEAP), which can provide a 3D atom-by-atom view of a material. The ₹40-crore instrument is funded by Department of Science and Technology and India's top eight research institutes including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kanpur. LEAP will have applications in automobiles, energy and transportation sector.
