IIT Madras study finds aerosols can improve flood forecasts
IIT Madras-led study found air pollution can affect rainfall and urban flood forecasts. Using Chennai's 2015 floods, researchers added aerosols to weather models and saw a 22% improvement in simulated rain and 50% better flood inundation accuracy. They said the method needs more testing before it can be used for routine forecasting in cities nationwide.
