Illinois has become the 12th state in the United States to legalise medically assisted death for terminally ill adults. Known as "Deb's Law," it takes effect in September 2026, allowing eligible, mentally competent patients with six months to live to request life-ending medication under strict safeguards. Legalised medically assisted suicide will come into effect from September 2026.
