In a 1st, scientists unexpectedly create gold hydride while forming diamonds

In a first, a team of international scientists at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory unexpectedly created solid binary gold hydride, a compound made exclusively of gold and hydrogen atoms. The researchers were analysing how long it takes hydrocarbons to make diamonds. "It was unexpected because gold is typically chemically very boring and unreactive," the study's lead scientist said.
