A series of pictures show the immense damage in war-torn eastern Aleppo, where forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad backed by Russia fought rebel forces. The pictures show several places including Umayyad mosque and Aleppo's old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, destroyed beyond recognition. Rebels had been fighting Syrian army in Aleppo since 2012 following an uprising against Assad.
