Independent India's 1st blind MP dies at 98

The first visually-impaired Member of Parliament of Independent India, Sadhan Gupta passed away on Saturday at the age of 98. A Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader, Gupta stayed a Lok Sabha member till 1962. He became West Bengal's first visually-impaired Advocate General and instituted the National Federation of the Blind. Gupta lost his eyesight to smallpox as an infant.
