India cuts time for social media firms to remove unlawful content from 36 hrs to 3 hrs

The Indian government has notified amendments to the Information Technology Intermediary Rules, 2021. The amendments reduced the time for social media companies to remove unlawful social media content to 3 hours, from the current 36 hours. Platforms also must acknowledge user complaints within two hours, down from the earlier 24-hour window, and resolve issues within seven days instead of 15.
