A total of around 20 lakh (estimated) NGOs are functional in India, CBI revealed. The mind-boggling figures boil down to one NGO per every 600 people. Surprisingly, India has just one policeman for every 943 people. The NGO count for few states are - 5.48 lakh in UP, 3.69 lakh in Kerala and 1.4 lakh in MP.
